Hangman manual
For how AudioGameAccess works in general, open the general manual with F1 from the main menu. To go back to the game, close this tab, or switch to the AudioGameAccess window with Alt+Tab.
The game
Find the hidden word, letter by letter, before the man is hanged. Each wrong letter adds a part to the man: you hear the wood creak, the rope tighten, and the hanged man groan. When no error is left, he is hanged.
Hangman is in Offline games, Create a table, Puzzle games, then Hangman. Offline, it is played alone; online, at the casino, alone or with others. There are no bots in this game.
The rules
- A game has several words, found one after the other. Each word's points add up.
- Accents are confused: the letter E also finds the word's É, È, Ê and Ë, the letter C finds Ç. A letter found is always shown and said as it is written: at the end, you know the exact spelling.
- A letter already tried is refused, without an error: you only hear the click of an old stopwatch.
- You can guess the whole word at any time. Right, the word is found, even typed without accents; wrong, it counts as an error.
- The hint shows a letter still hidden, at all its places, and costs an error. It is refused when you have only one error left.
- The points of a word found: 10 per level, 5 per error left (in proportion to the errors allowed), and 3 per place still hidden when you find the whole word. A word lost earns nothing.
- The words are real words, 4 to 14 letters, in one piece: no hyphen, no apostrophe, no proper noun, no rude word.
The game options
At your table's menu, the second line is Game options:
- Errors allowed: 4 to 10; 6 by default, the head, the body, two arms and two legs.
- Level: from 1, very easy, common and short words, to 5, very hard, rare and long words.
- Words a game: 1, 5, 10 or 20.
- Language of the words: French or English; by default, the game's language.
Enter opens the list of choices; Shift+Up Arrow and Shift+Down Arrow also go from one choice to the next, and you hear only the new value. Confirm keeps your options for your next tables; Restore the default options puts back the starting settings. Escape leaves without changing anything.
The keys
- Left Arrow and Right Arrow: go through the word. A letter found is said; a hole ticks. Home and End: the first and the last place, with "First" and "Last".
- Enter: the field to guess a letter; type it, then Enter. If you type several, or something other than a letter, the field comes back and tells you why.
- Control+Enter: the field to guess the whole word.
- D: the whole word at once, "blank" for each hole.
- L: the letters already tried, the right ones then the wrong ones.
- V: the errors you have left. The game also says them after each letter.
- I: a hint, for an error.
- S: your points and your words found.
- R: the word's number in the game. Shift+R: the game options.
- Control+S: save the table and leave it. X: stop the game, after a confirmation. Q: leave the table, after a confirmation.
- Shift+F1: the instructions. F1: this manual.
What you hear
- A word's start: its number and its number of letters.
- A right letter: a success sound, then the letter and how many times it appears.
- A wrong letter: an error sound, the gallows' wood creaking, the rope tightening while the hanged man groans, then the errors left.
- The word found: a victory sound, the word and its points. Hanged: the rope pulls tight, the man cries out, the fall and the crash, then the word you had to find.
Online, at the casino
At the casino, create a table, choose Puzzle games, then Hangman. It can be played alone or up to 8. The words are in the language of whoever created the table, unless they choose another in the options.
Before the game, the table's creator sets the Game options: the same as offline, plus the mode, the time to think and the time a word. The modes:
- One word for the table, in turns: a letter, the whole word or a hint per player, in turn. The errors are the table's; whoever completes the word wins its points. With a time to think, a turn that lasts too long passes to the next one.
- One word for the table, first come: everyone guesses whenever they want, the letters found are for all.
- Each their own word, the same time for all: the same word for each, on their own. You hear only your letters; of the others, only "found the word" or "is hanged". When the time a word is up, the word stops for those still looking for it.
- Each their own word, the first who finds it wins: the same word for each, and the word stops for all as soon as someone found it.
- The word chosen by a player: in turn, a player types a secret word, and the others look for it in turns. At least 2 players are needed. When it is your turn to choose, Enter opens the field of the secret word. The word must be in the game's dictionary and well spelled, accents included: in French, "elephant" is refused, "éléphant" accepted. Otherwise, the field comes back and tells you why. After 60 seconds, the game chooses a word by chance. Whoever chose the word does not play that one: they hear the others look for it.
Online, these keys are added to the offline ones:
- T: whose turn it is, or who is choosing the word.
- Shift+S: everyone's points. Shift+W: the players at the table.
- Escape: the pause menu. The table goes on; its administrator can pause it, or start it again, for everyone.
- Control+S: save the game, for the table's administrator; the table goes on. X: stop the game, for the administrator.
A player who leaves: their turn passes by itself. Whoever arrives during a game watches it, and will play the next one. At the end of the game, you hear everyone's points, then your place in the online leaderboards: as offline, your mean of points per word.
Saved tables and leaderboards
The table saves itself between two words. Control+S and Q also save it, in the middle of a word. Your tables are in Offline games, Saved tables, Puzzle games, Hangman: Enter seats you at the table again, then Resume the game takes it up where it was. When the game ends, its save is gone.
The leaderboard keeps, for each game finished, your mean of points per word: a game of 20 words does not beat a game of one word by itself. Control+0 opens the Leaderboards.
